Nike continues its string of premium Air Max 1 releases with the elegantly subtle AM1 “Hangul Day”. The sneaker’s design pays tribute to the annual celebration of the South Korean alphabet

Every year, on the 9th of October South Korean culture, celebrates the origin of their alphabet which was created during the 15th Century by King Sejong. Over time the celebrations have evolved to seamlessly combine tradition with pop culture. Nike’s own celebration has created a tonal colourway which is as timeless as the silhouette itself.

The new colourway takes the familiar silhouette of the AM1 and dresses it in a mix of tonal shades. Together, subtle graphics and material choices add a premium feel and pay tribute to South Korean culture. An embossed Hangul lettering "나이키" (which means Nike), is found on the plastic heel overlay, honouring the Korean alphabet. Additionally, the jewel Swoosh, stylised lace tips, toggle lacing, suede textile, and fleece lining combine to elevate the look and feel. Finally, the sole unit takes a different direction and covers up the iconic Air bubble.
