ASICS X INVINCIBLE X MADNESS GEL-KAYANO 121

The ASICS GEL-KAYANO 12.1 x INVINCIBLE x MADNESS brings together the Japanese performance brand, Taiwanese retailer INVINCIBLE and Hong Kong menswear label MADNESS for their first three-way collaboration. The project combines INVINCIBLE’s perspective on sneaker culture, ASICS’ running heritage and MADNESS’ understated approach to vintage sportswear.

The design takes inspiration from the meeting point between urban running and outdoor exploration, looking specifically to the layered, rugged surface of dolomite rock. That idea is translated through a complex mix of ten materials and a tonal Vanilla palette. Translucent mesh, suede, leather, ripstop and textured fabrics are layered across the upper, creating depth through material rather than colour. Raw edges and tactile finishes give the shoe a slightly unfinished, utilitarian quality, while zigzag stitching, woven labels and subtle INVINCIBLE and MADNESS branding add to the detail.

Underneath the collaboration is the GEL-KAYANO 12.1, a hybrid silhouette that brings the upper design of the 2006 GEL-KAYANO 12 together with the more modern tooling of the GEL-NIMBUS 17. Originally co-created with KITH, its technical, armour-inspired upper sits on a cushioned sole featuring rearfoot and forefoot GEL technology and FLUIDRIDE cushioning.

The natural cream and beige colourway makes the otherwise highly detailed construction surprisingly versatile. Designed as a unisex silhouette, the ASICS x INVINCIBLE x MADNESS GEL-KAYANO 12.1 works easily across everyday, streetwear and more considered looks while retaining the comfort of its performance-running roots.
