John Coltrane’s iconic quartet of the early-to-mid-Sixties shone spectacularly on 1964’s ‘Crescent’. Recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's Englewood Cliffs studio, it’s an album consisting entirely of Coltrane originals, with the tenor saxophonist sharing the spotlight with drummer Elvin Jones and bassist Jimmy Garrison, who are given extended solos on the LP’s second side. Reissued as part of Verve’s Acoustic Sounds Series.
